Through ECF
and the BBMAs,
I’ve been embraced
by a family that uplifts
and reminds me that
I’m capable, and
deserving, of walking
paths I never thought
possible.

Education is the future
The Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards
(BBMAs) provide financial support
to Métis Albertans pursuing post-
secondary education, offering
scholarships of up to $10,000 each
year. Established in 2001 by Orval
Belcourt, Dr. Herb Belcourt, and
Georges Brosseau QC, the BBMAs
foster self-sufficiency and opportunity
for Métis students through education
and skills development.
Over the past two decades, the BBMAs
have awarded more than $12 million to
more than 1,800 Métis students across
Alberta. Today, the BBMAs remain
one of the largest non-governmental
sources of funding for Métis learners
in Canada — helping students achieve
their educational dreams, strengthen
their communities, and build a brighter
future for generations to come.
