A Day in the Life
Taya Sutherland at
Royal T Equestrian
in Grande Prairie
“The animal is going to tell you a lot, and
they’re going to tell you if they’re unhappy
or if they’re hungry or maybe something isn’t
working right,” she says. “It’s about learning
how to trust what they’re telling you, and to
find the best situation that’s going to work
for them.”
Sutherland describes her work as a
constant balance of care and intuition.
Alongside feeding hungry mouths and
mucking pens, it’s understanding herd
dynamics, managing dietary needs and
adapting to Alberta’s ever-changing weather.
“People, when it’s cold, go into their house.
Well, (horses) don’t have a house, so we
obviously take care of them appropriately

going to work for them.”
