Grooming a Horse
A step-by-step guide on
how to groom a horse
Make sure your horse is safely
tethered before grooming.

Secure your horse 2
Clean the hooves
Using a hoof pick, remove dirt and
debris from the horse’s hooves.
Don’t forget the frog (the V-shaped
area at the back of the hoof)!

Prepare the hair
Working in circles, use a curry
comb to loosen dirt and hair.

Use a hard (dandy)
brush to remove the
loosened dirt and hair.
Remember, always brush in
the direction of hair growth.
Start to brush
Use a soft brush 6

Finishing touches
Remove any remaining debris and
smooth the coat with a soft brush.
Brush the mane and tail, starting
from the bottom to avoid tangles.
